1. Unbox Your Ledger Device
When you receive your Ledger Nano X or Nano S Plus, ensure the packaging is sealed and untampered. Inside, you’ll find:
- Your Ledger device
- A USB cable
- Recovery sheets for your 24-word phrase
- Instruction booklet and accessories (optional)
If your device includes a pre-written recovery phrase, do not use it. Always generate your recovery phrase yourself during setup.
2. Download and Install Ledger Live
Ledger Live is the official app for managing your crypto assets. Download it securely from ledger.com/start for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, or Android. Once installed, open Ledger Live and follow the prompts to connect and initialize your device.
3. Set Up Your Ledger Device
Connect your device using the supplied USB cable (or Bluetooth for Nano X). Then:
- Choose “Set up as new device.”
- Create a strong PIN code.
- Write down your 24-word recovery phrase and store it offline in a safe location.
Your recovery phrase is your ultimate backup — it restores access to your crypto if the device is lost or reset. Never share it with anyone.
4. Install Apps and Add Accounts
In Ledger Live, go to the Manager tab to install apps for your preferred cryptocurrencies. Each blockchain requires its own app (for example, Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Solana). Then, use the Accounts tab to add wallets for each asset type. Your balances and transaction history will be displayed in real time.
5. Securely Manage Your Assets
To send or swap crypto, confirm all transactions directly on your Ledger’s screen before approval. This prevents unauthorized transfers and keeps your funds safe from malware. Ledger supports thousands of tokens and integrates with major Web3 and DeFi platforms for secure staking, NFT management, and more.
6. Stay Safe and Informed
Ledger will never ask for your 24-word recovery phrase — not via email, social media, or any website. Be alert to phishing attempts, fake apps, and clone websites. Always ensure you’re visiting https://www.ledger.com and keep your firmware and Ledger Live app updated.
